Texas HB5075 allows school districts in counties with populations over 125,000 to establish alternative programs instead of sending students to.
Texas HB5075 amends the Education Code to allow school districts in counties with populations over 125,000 to create alternative programs for students who would otherwise be referred to juvenile justice alternative education programs. This change exempts these school districts from the requirement that juvenile boards develop such programs, subject to approval from the Texas Juvenile Justice Department. Counties with populations of 125,000 or less may still develop these programs, but they are not subject to certain departmental regulations. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
