Texas HB4970 prohibits SNAP recipients from using benefits to buy certain food and drink items.
Texas HB4970 amends the Human Resources Code to prohibit recipients of supplemental nutrition assistance program benefits from using those benefits to purchase energy drinks, sweetened beverages, carbonated beverages, candy, potato or corn chips, and cookies. Exceptions include milk products, milk substitutes, and certain beverages or products recommended by a health care professional or containing plant protein sources. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
