Texas HB481 creates a criminal offense for the unlawful possession or transfer of a large-capacity magazine.
Texas HB481 amends the Penal Code to add Section 46.056, which defines a "large-capacity magazine" as a detachable ammunition feeding device that can accept or be readily converted to accept more than 10 rounds. Exceptions include.22 caliber tube devices, tubular magazines in lever-action firearms, permanently disabled devices, and inoperable magazines. The bill makes it a Class A misdemeanor to knowingly possess or transfer such magazines. Exemptions apply if the conduct occurs while performing official duties as a peace officer or member of the armed forces or state military.
