Texas HB4704 proposes a paid parental leave policy for public school employees and changes to prekindergarten eligibility.
HB4704 allows public school districts and open-enrollment charter schools to adopt a paid parental leave policy for full-time employees. Eligible employees can take up to eight weeks of leave for the birth, adoption, or placement of a child with them. The leave cannot exceed six months from the child's birth or placement. Employees can take this leave concurrently with federal Family and Medical Leave Act leave and without using their paid vacation or sick leave first. The policy must require employees to have worked for the district or school for at least 12 months.
