Texas HB4551 amends the Education Code to change the process for filling vacancies on independent school district boards of trustees. The bill prohibits the remaining trustees from filling a vacancy by appointment until the next trustee election. Instead, the vacancy must be filled at the district's next general election or through a special election. If more than one year remains in the term of the position vacated, the vacancy must be filled within 18 months.
