Texas HB4544 modifies the Government Code to facilitate the dismissal and expunction of criminal cases for defendants who successfully complete a veterans treatment court program. If a defendant, arrested for or charged with, convicted of, or placed on deferred adjudication community supervision for any misdemeanor or felony offense, completes the program, the veterans treatment court must notify the court handling the criminal case. The court then dismisses the case and may expunge the defendant's record, contingent on the attorney representing the state's consent.
