Texas bill allows the comptroller and local governments to invest in cryptocurrencies.
The Texas bill amends the Government Code to allow the comptroller of public accounts and certain political subdivisions to invest in cryptocurrencies. The comptroller can invest up to $250 million of the economic stabilization fund balance in Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency. Municipalities and counties can invest up to $10 million of their funds or funds under their control in Bitcoin or another cryptocurrency. The bill defines "Bitcoin" and "cryptocurrency" and takes effect September 1, 2025.
