Texas HB3188 prohibits using SNAP benefits to buy certain food items.
Texas HB3188 amends the Human Resources Code to prohibit the use of supplemental nutrition assistance benefits for purchasing sweetened beverages, candy, potato or corn chips, and cookies. Exceptions include milk products, milk substitutes, beverages with non-caloric sweeteners, infant formula, weight-reduction beverages, unsweetened fruit or vegetable juices, and products fortified with vitamins or minerals and containing protein. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
