HB2544 amends the Education Code to establish a program for student loan repayment assistance for certain nurses. The Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board administers the program, which provides up to $5,000 annually for up to five years, not exceeding $6 million per biennium. Eligible nurses must apply, be advanced practice, registered, or licensed vocational nurses, and work full-time for at least a year at a convalescent or nursing facility or a continuing care facility. The board may solicit and accept gifts and grants for the program. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
