Texas HB2268 amends the Local Government Code and Water Code to limit the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality's authority to create certain special districts. The authority to create multi-county districts, municipal management districts, municipal utility districts, water improvement districts, water control and improvement districts, master districts, or subdistricts expires on September 1, 2025. Petitions for district creation pending before the commission on the effective date of this Act will be governed by existing law. Districts created before the expiration date remain valid.
