Texas HB2159 amends the Family Code to allow minors to consent to medical, dental, psychological, and surgical treatment under certain conditions. Specifically, a minor can consent to treatment if they are on active duty with the U.S. armed forces, are 16 or older and living independently, manage their own financial affairs, consent to treatment for infectious diseases, or are unmarried and pregnant. Additionally, a minor who is a parent can consent to treatment for their child if they are unmarried and have custody. The changes take effect September 1, 2025.
