Texas HB2033 amends the Government Code to establish the community development grocery store grant program. The Texas Economic Development and Tourism Office will administer the program, awarding grants to businesses that propose to operate grocery stores in food deserts. A food desert is defined as a census tract with a poverty rate of 20% or higher, or a median family income at or below 80% of the area median family income, and where at least 500 people or 33% of the population reside more than one mile from a grocery store.
