Texas HB1897 establishes criteria for the Public Utility Commission of Texas to approve coastal wind power facilities.
Texas HB1897 amends the Utilities Code to add criteria for the Public Utility Commission of Texas to consider when approving coastal wind power facilities. The commission must evaluate whether the facility may negatively affect established industries, the environment, or coastal safety. The commission cannot grant approval if the facility poses risks or if electricity service is already adequate. This Act applies to applications for which the commission has not issued a final order before its effective date of September 1, 2025.
