Texas HB1754 amends the Code of Criminal Procedure and the Family Code to establish minimum durations for protective orders. Under the new law, a protective order may be effective for the duration of the lives of the offender and victim or for a period of not less than one year stated in the order. If no period is specified, the order is effective until the second anniversary of the date it was issued. These changes apply only to protective orders rendered after the effective date of the Act, which is September 1, 2025.
