Texas HB1706 mandates additional requirements for individualized education programs for children with autism or other pervasive developmental.
HB1706 requires school districts to provide parents with written information about strategies for autism or other pervasive developmental disorders at least seven days before admission, review, and dismissal committee meetings. The committee must consider these strategies and decide if they are appropriate and practicable for the child's individualized education program. If a strategy is deemed inappropriate or impracticable, the committee must document the reasons. For parents who do not speak English, the district must provide the information in Spanish or another language if feasible.
