HB1574 amends the Texas Occupations Code to redefine "low-THC cannabis" as Cannabis sativa L. and its derivatives containing no more than 10 milligrams of tetrahydrocannabinols per dosage unit. It permits physicians to prescribe low-THC cannabis to patients diagnosed with conditions such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, and cancer, among others, provided the physician certifies the risk-benefit ratio is favorable. The Department of State Health Services can designate additional debilitating conditions for which low-THC cannabis may be prescribed. The act takes effect September 1, 2025.
