Tennessee SJR0018 commemorates the 100th anniversary of Tom Lee's heroism in rescuing 32 individuals from the Mississippi River on May 8, 1925. Tom Lee, despite not being able to swim, courageously saved the passengers when their steamer capsized. He was recognized with a job as a sanitation worker, his home was purchased by the Engineers Club, and he was celebrated at the White House by President Calvin Coolidge. Astor Park in Memphis was renamed Tom Lee Park in 1954, and later expanded by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
