Proposed amendment to Tennessee Constitution to redefine and expand rights of crime victims.

The bill proposes an amendment to Article I, Section 35 of the Tennessee Constitution to redefine and expand the rights of crime victims. The amendment would ensure victims have the right to be treated fairly, receive notice of proceedings, be present at proceedings, be heard in relevant proceedings, and receive restitution, among other protections. The amendment would also clarify that it does not create a basis for vacating a conviction, restrict the powers of the District Attorney General, or create a cause of action for damages against the state.
