SB2525

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 37; Title 49; Title 50, Chapter 5 and Title 71, relative to children.

Complete·5/5/26

Allows high school students aged 15-19 to work in child care centers if they complete certain courses.

The bill amends Tennessee law to allow high school students aged 15-19 to work in child care centers outside of school hours or during school hours through a work-based learning program. This is contingent on the student completing at least two courses in a program of study under the education and training career cluster. The bill prohibits students from working in a child care center located in an occupied residence of the primary caregiver. The Department of Education may create rules to implement this change, following the Uniform Administrative Procedures Act.
