SB2197 amends Tennessee law to modify the criteria for expunging nonviolent convictions following a pardon.

SB2197 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 40, to change the conditions under which a person can petition for an expungement after receiving a pardon. It removes the requirement that the conviction must have been for a nonviolent crime. Instead, it specifies that the conviction must not be for certain felonies, including first and second-degree murder, especially aggravated kidnapping, aggravated child abuse, especially aggravated robbery, commission of an act of terrorism, or a sexual offense involving a minor.
