Introduced·2/2/26
Draft Text

Extends health insurance benefits to spouses and dependents of state and local law enforcement officers killed or injured in the line of duty.

This bill amends Tennessee law to extend health insurance benefits to the spouses and dependent children of state and local law enforcement officers who are killed or suffer a catastrophic injury in the line of duty. The state insurance committee and political subdivisions are required to offer or continue providing these benefits. The bill also defines "catastrophic injury" and specifies that coverage may continue for dependent children if the spouse or surviving spouse is unable to secure insurance coverage through new employment. The changes take effect July 1, 2026.
