Tennessee SB2177 mandates a study on law enforcement officer salaries and benefits, focusing on recruitment, staffing, and retention.

Tennessee SB2177 requires the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) to study the salaries and benefits of state and local law enforcement officers. The study will analyze how current compensation affects recruitment, staffing, and retention, especially in smaller departments, and explore potential improvements. It will also examine the impact of state salary increases on local officers. TACIR must publish a report with findings and recommendations by January 31, 2027, to the governor, legislative leaders, and the legislative librarian.
