SB1989 amends Tennessee law to protect parents and legal guardians from penalties for raising, guiding, or instructing their children according to their biological sex. This includes using titles and pronouns consistent with the child's biological sex and making medical or mental health decisions based on it. The bill also prevents these actions from being grounds for child abuse or neglect findings, court determinations of unruliness, dependency, or neglect, or custody decisions. The act takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
