SB1962

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 68, Chapter 221, Part 7, relative to hardwater standards.

Introduced·1/22/26

Tennessee SB1962 sets a maximum hardwater level for public water systems and outlines compliance and exemption requirements.

Tennessee SB1962 establishes a maximum allowable hardwater level of 180 milligrams per liter for public water systems. Public water systems receiving state funds for upgrades must comply with this standard upon completion of the upgrade. Systems not receiving such funds are exempt unless they receive funding later. Systems can apply for a seasonal runoff exemption if elevated hardwater levels are due to precipitation or snowmelt. To qualify, systems must notify the department within ten business days, provide documentation, and submit a remediation plan if required.
