SB1951

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, relative to school transportation.

Complete·4/6/26

SB1951 amends Tennessee school transportation laws to extend the service life of school buses used for after-school programs.

SB1951 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, to allow conventional or Class D school buses used exclusively for transporting students to after-school programs to remain in service until they reach twenty years of service or accumulate 300,000 miles of recorded travel, whichever occurs later. Previously, these buses were subject to the same 18-year limit as other school buses. The bill also requires the bus owner to notify the department of safety when the bus reaches 20 years of service or 300,000 miles, and mandates that the bus meet all safety requirements for continued operation.
