Complete·5/27/26

SB1847 amends Tennessee law to allow the use of deadly force to defend property against certain crimes.

SB1847 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 39, to allow a person to use deadly force to defend property against crimes such as trespass, arson, damage to property, burglary, theft, robbery, or aggravated cruelty to animals. This defense is justified if the person reasonably believes deadly force is necessary to prevent or terminate the crime and that the property cannot be protected or the criminal actions terminated by any other means, or that using non-deadly force would expose the person or a third person to a risk of death or serious bodily injury.
