Tennessee SB1747 makes recklessly discharging a firearm in public places a Class A misdemeanor.

Tennessee SB1747 amends state law to establish that recklessly discharging a firearm into the air, ground, water, or an object in public places or at public events with at least twenty-five people is a Class A misdemeanor. This applies unless the discharge is in defense of a person or animal from an imminent attack, or if the firearm is used by a law enforcement officer, wildlife officer, or military personnel in the course of their duties. The law takes effect July 1, 2026.
