Tennessee SB1486 mandates law enforcement agencies to accept and honor immigration detainers from federal authorities.
Tennessee SB1486 amends state laws to require law enforcement agencies to accept and honor immigration detainers from federal authorities starting July 1, 2026. This means agencies must comply with the requested conditions in the detainer, including maintaining custody for 48 hours beyond the release time and notifying federal authorities before releasing the subject. The act specifies that "accept and honor" includes these actions and excludes weekends and holidays from the 48-hour period.
