AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 40, relative to bail.

Allows victims to sue bail depositors for damages if the defendant commits a crime while out on bail.

Tennessee SB1484 amends Tennessee Code to allow any victim of a crime committed by a defendant who was released on bail to bring a civil lawsuit against the person who posted the bail. This applies if the defendant is subsequently convicted of the crime. The act takes effect July 1, 2026, and applies to causes of action arising on or after that date.
