Tennessee SB1480 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 38, Chapter 7, concerning autopsies. When an autopsy is ordered by the district attorney general, the county medical examiner must notify the chief medical examiner. The county medical examiner may perform the autopsy or designate and authorize a pathologist to do so. The costs and expenses of the autopsy must be paid by the state. This act will take effect on July 1, 2026.
