Tennessee SB1283 revises Tennessee Code Annotated, Section 68-5-602, to mandate blood tests for pregnant women. Physicians, surgeons, or other authorized personnel must take blood samples at the first examination or within ten days, and between the twenty-eighth and thirty-second week of gestation. Tests must check for syphilis infection, rubella immunity, hepatitis B surface antigen, and hepatitis C antibody, with additional reflex testing for HCV RNA if needed. Blood samples must be sent to an approved laboratory.
