SB1119

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 40, Chapter 29, relative to voting rights.

Introduced·2/6/25
Draft Text

SB1119 amends Tennessee voting rights to require individuals to be current in child support obligations to restore suffrage.

SB1119 modifies Tennessee's voting rights by making individuals ineligible to apply for a voter registration card unless they are current in all child support obligations. However, individuals can provisionally restore their right of suffrage by entering a payment plan. The court can revoke this provisional right if the individual fails to adhere to the payment plan, but must first provide court-appointed counsel and allow the individual to submit proof of financial inability to pay.
