Tennessee SB1077 mandates public higher education institutions to include a course on American history and government in their degree programs.

Tennessee SB1077 requires public institutions of higher education to offer a course on American history and government by the 2025-2026 academic year. The course must cover the U.S. Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, selected Federalist Papers, the Emancipation Proclamation, the Gettysburg Address, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s letter from Birmingham jail, and at least one additional document foundational to the African-American freedom struggle. The course must be three semester hours and include a final examination.
