Complete·5/27/25

SB1020 amends Tennessee's public charter school laws to allow limited operation outside the authorized LEA boundaries.

SB1020 amends Tennessee's public charter school laws to allow a public charter school to operate outside the geographic boundaries of the local education authority (LEA) that authorized it, under certain conditions. The bill specifies that a public charter school can operate outside its authorized LEA boundaries if it needs additional space and enters into a lease agreement for buildings or facilities within the same county as the LEA. The LEA is not required to comply with certain requirements if the public charter school operates outside its boundaries under this provision.
