Tennessee SB0841 amends Tennessee Code to require the collection of DNA samples from individuals arrested for felony offenses starting July 1, 2025. The arresting authority must collect the biological specimen using a buccal swab before the person's release on bond or recognizance. The Tennessee Bureau of Investigation must maintain the sample and destroy it if the charges are dismissed or the defendant is acquitted, unless there is another pending qualifying warrant or capias. The court or magistrate must make the provision of the specimen a condition of release.
