SB0391

Allows certified facility dogs to accompany victims or witnesses in court to reduce stress and enhance testimony.

This bill amends Tennessee law to allow courts to permit certified facility dogs to accompany victims or other witnesses during court proceedings. These dogs, trained by nonprofit organizations, must meet specific criteria including graduation from an assistance dog organization, two years of training, a health certificate, and liability insurance. The court must inform the jury of the dog's presence and ensure it does not interfere with proceedings. The dog must wear identifying markings and the party seeking to use the dog must file a motion for approval.
