SB0224 amends Tennessee law to allow athletic trainers to use dry needling and physical modalities for treating athletic injuries.
SB0224 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49 and Title 63, to allow athletic trainers to use dry needling and physical modalities like heat, light, and electricity for the prevention, recognition, evaluation, management, disposition, rehabilitation, and treatment of athletic injuries. The bill also requires athletic trainers to obtain proper training and certification for dry needling. The practice of dry needling by an athletic trainer does not constitute the practice of acupuncture. The act takes effect upon becoming law for rule promulgation and July 1, 2025, for all other purposes.
