Tennessee SB0190 mandates continued health insurance coverage for pregnant employees terminated by their employer.
Tennessee SB0190 amends state law to ensure that employers cannot stop paying for health insurance coverage for pregnant employees who are terminated. Effective July 1, 2025, employers must continue to pay their share of the cost to provide coverage of the former employee under the employer-sponsored health benefit plan. Health insurers are prohibited from terminating the former employee's coverage based on the employer's request unless accompanied by proof of the employer's receipt of the former employee's signed written statement indicating the date the pregnancy ended.
