Tennessee SB0161 amends Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, Chapter 2, to require each board of education for a local education agency operating at least one high school to select a junior or senior student as a nonvoting student representative. This representative serves as the voice of the student body. The student must attend all board meetings but cannot attend confidential, nonpublic executive sessions. The board may establish additional eligibility requirements and must ensure equal opportunity for all students. The student serves without compensation but may be reimbursed for expenses.
