Tennessee SB0006 amends state law to require law enforcement agencies to request immigration detainers for individuals known to be unlawfully present in the U.S. from the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) division. If a detainer is not received within 30 days, the agency must transport the individual to a sanctuary city outside the state within 700 miles. Agencies must report monthly costs to the Department of Revenue, which will request federal reimbursement or withhold federal motor fuel taxes. The act takes effect July 1, 2025.
