Tennessee HB2498 amends TennCare to prohibit coverage or reimbursement for medical procedures intended to enable individuals to identify with or live as a gender inconsistent with their sex. Exceptions are made for treatments of congenital defects, precocious puberty, diseases, or physical injuries, and for ongoing procedures initiated before the act's effective date. The act defines terms such as "congenital defect," "disease," "medical procedure," "puberty blocker," and "sex." The act takes effect July 1, 2026.
