Introduced·2/2/26
Draft Text

Amends Tennessee criminal offenses to redefine brandishing of a deadly weapon and adds a definition for "brandish".

Tennessee HB2298 amends the state's criminal offenses by modifying the language around the use of deadly weapons. It replaces "Involved the use or display of a deadly weapon" with "Involved the use, display, or brandishing of a deadly weapon". The bill also adds a new definition for "brandish", which means to wave or exhibit a weapon in a manner that would be found by a reasonable person to indicate a threat to use the weapon. This change takes effect on July 1, 2026.
