Tennessee HB2204 mandates a study on the compensation of state and local law enforcement officers, focusing on recruitment, staffing, and retention.

Tennessee HB2204 requires the Tennessee Advisory Commission on Intergovernmental Relations (TACIR) to conduct a study on the salaries and benefits of state and local law enforcement officers. The study will analyze how current compensation affects recruitment, staffing, and retention, especially in smaller city and county departments. It will also evaluate the impact of state salary increases on local law enforcement officers. TACIR must publish a report with findings and recommendations by January 31, 2027, and deliver it to the governor, legislative leaders, and the legislative librarian.
