HB2123

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 68, Chapter 121, relative to private elevators.

Introduced·2/2/26

Amends Tennessee law to define "private residence" and require registration and notification for private residence elevators.

This bill amends Tennessee law to define "private residence" as a single-family or single-unit multi-family dwelling not open to the public. It mandates that all newly constructed private residence elevators be registered with the department within seven days of being placed in service. Upon sale of the property, the new owner must notify the department within sixty days. The bill also specifies that certain inspections do not apply to private residence elevators. The changes take effect on July 1, 2027.
