Tennessee HB2000 modifies the state's charter school laws to permit private postsecondary institutions, including religiously affiliated ones, to establish public charter schools. The bill excludes for-profit entities, nonpublic schools, and unaccredited postsecondary institutions from sponsoring charter schools. It also removes restrictions on private postsecondary institutions establishing charter schools and updates references to "public institution of higher education" to "postsecondary institution." This act takes effect upon becoming law.
