Tennessee HB1973 amends the state's education code to prohibit educators from engaging in sexually related behavior with students or former students.

Tennessee HB1973 amends the state's education code to explicitly prohibit educators from engaging in any sexually related behavior with students or former students. Such behavior includes verbal, nonverbal, written, visual, auditory, physical, virtual, digital, or electronic actions. The bill defines "former student" as an individual who graduated, withdrew, ceased enrollment, or completed the highest grade level at the school where the educator worked within the preceding twelve months. Violations must be reported to the state board of education and can lead to educator license discipline.
