Tennessee HB1961 prohibits state assistance in veteran deportation without proper certification and due process.

Tennessee HB1961 amends Tennessee Code to establish the Tennessee Veteran Protection and Due Process Act. It prohibits state or local law enforcement from assisting in immigration enforcement actions against individuals unless the federal authority certifies the individual is not a veteran or their veteran status has been reviewed. Veterans must be informed of their right to consult an attorney and given access to records to establish their service. Any evidence obtained in violation of this act is inadmissible in state proceedings.
