The Tennessee Freedom from Unlawful Immigration Detention Act prohibits Tennessee law enforcement agencies from detaining, arresting, or restraining the liberty of individuals based on ICE detainers, administrative warrants, or requests for notification, transfer, or extended custody. It also prohibits detention based on suspected or alleged immigration status. A transfer made in violation of this act is considered unlawful detention. Individuals unlawfully detained or transferred can bring a civil action against the law enforcement agency and political subdivision involved.
