HB1931

HB1931 amends Tennessee Code to restrict county legislative bodies from reducing sheriff's office budgets without sheriff's consent.

HB1931 amends Tennessee Code to limit county legislative bodies' authority over sheriff's office budgets. Specifically, it prohibits these bodies from reducing budgets for personnel salaries, benefits, or operational expenditures without the sheriff's written consent. If the sheriff disapproves a budget amendment, the county legislative body must secure a two-thirds vote to proceed. The act also ensures that if any part of it is found invalid, the rest remains in effect unless the sheriff approves the reduction in writing. This legislation takes effect immediately upon becoming law.
