HB1856

AN ACT to amend Tennessee Code Annotated, Title 49, relative to school transportation.

Complete·4/6/26

HB1856 allows school buses used for after-school programs to operate until they reach 20 years old or 300,000 miles, whichever is later.

HB1856 amends Tennessee law to allow conventional or Class D school buses used exclusively for transporting students to after-school programs to operate until they reach 20 years of service or accumulate 300,000 miles, whichever occurs later. Previously, such buses had to be replaced after 18 years or 300,000 miles, whichever came first. The bill also removes a limit on the age of buses used for other school transportation purposes. The changes apply immediately upon the bill's enactment.
